My photo

Currently I am an Assistant Professor and Ramon y Cajal fellow at the Instituto de Fisica Teorica (IFT) in Madrid, Spain. I am mainly interested in studying modified gravity and dark energy models and confronting them with various probes including the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), Type Ia Supernovae (SnIa), Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) and others.

My doctorate was under the supervision of Prof. Leandros Perivolaropoulos at the University of Ioannina in Greece, from September 2004 to June 2008. After that, I worked for 3 years (2008-2011) at the Niels Bohr International Academy in Copenhagen in Denmark, where I had a prestigious grant from the Danish Research Council (FNU) and for another 3 years (2011-2014) at the Instituto de Fisica Teorica (IFT) in Madrid, Spain. Finally, I also worked (2014-2015) as senior postdoctoral researcher (Maitre-assistant) at the famous University of Geneva in Switzerland.

EPHEMERA:

NEW: My awesome new paper called "The Internal Robustness of Growth Rate data" is now on the arXiv! The abstract and the PDF version of the paper can be found here arXiv:1806.10822.

NEW: During the spring semester of 2017/2018 I am co-teaching (with Gustavo Yepes and Alexander Knebe) in the Master Course: "Advanced Cosmology" at the IFT. The webpage of the class can be found here and the CMB part of the course can be found here. A presentation that illustrates the basic use of CAMB can be found here. In the class I will also show the "Mathematica Interface for CAMB", which can be found on my old web page here. It only works on Mathematica 8 as newer versions are not (yet) compatible.

AWARDS:

I received a distinction by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) for my scientific merits for the year 2015-2016 in a ceremony that took place in Madrid in Spain on June 30, 2016. Some details and a picture can be found here!

I received the Georgios Th. Foteinos award in theoretical physics and a 3000€ prize from the Academy of Athens in a ceremony that took place in Athens in Greece on December 22, 2015. The official announcement of the Academy, along with the list of the award winners can be found (in Greek) here! The award can be seen here, while a video of the ceremony can be found here.

The American Physical Society, publisher of PRD and other journals, named me "Outstanding Referee of 2014"! Along with the award I also received a nice certificate, which can be seen here.

EDUCATION:

My educational portal has now (June 18, 2018) received ~3860 both new and returning users and around 14900 pageviews!!! Detailed stats can be found here.

Some papers related to Inflation, used in the "Modern Cosmology" class, can be found here, while a Mathematica notebook that calculates the slow roll parameters and other quantities can be found here.

Some codes related to the CMB and the Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO), used in the "Modern Cosmology" class, can be found here.

A joint SnIa, CMB, BAO growth-rate likelihood can be found here.

For my amazing project called: "A Mathematica Interface for CosmoMC", go here.

Finally, you can have a look at my CV in PDF and DOC format and a list of my publications in PDF format.
