Dark Matter Detection

C. Muñoz

(UAM, IFT)

Recently, DAMA and CDMS experiments for the direct detection of dark matter have reported results. In particular, DAMA collaboration claims to have detected Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs). This issue will be discussed in this talk. First, a brief introduction to the subject of dark matter (the problem of flat rotation curves, possible dark matter candidates, etc.) will be given. Then, direct detection of dark matter through elastic scattering with nuclei in a material will be discussed. Finally, whether or not the existing theoretical models give rise to cross sections in the range where current dark matter detectors are sensitive, will be analyzed in detail.

Where: Modulo C-XVI, 3rd floor, Facultad de Ciencias U.A.M., C.U. Cantoblanco, 28049-Madrid
