The Uses of Whitham Hierarchies in N=2 Supersymmetric Gauge Theories

José D. Edelstein

(U. de Santiago de Compostela)

The Seiberg-Witten solution to the low energy effective dynamics of N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories can be reformulated in terms of certain integrable systems whose averaged dynamics is governed by a sort of RG equations that define the so-called Whitham hierarchy. I will show that this is a very fruitful framework both to study many features of the infrared dynamics of N=2 supersymetric gauge theories (instanton corrections, strong coupling expansions, soft supersymmetry breaking, etc), as well as to implement natural generalizations of the SW solution.
