Nonequilibrium Chiral Perturbation Theory and Disoriented Chiral Condensates

A. Gómez Nicola

U. Complutense de Madrid

We propose an extension of Chiral Perturbation Theory to describe a meson gas out of thermal equilibrium. The pion decay constant becomes a time-dependent function and a useful connection with a QFT in a curved space-time allows to establish consistently renormalisation and power counting. We discuss the applicability of our approach to study the dynamics of the plasma formed after a Relativistic Heavy Ion Collision. In particular, Disoriented Chiral Condensates (regions of misaligned vacuum formed during the chiral phase transition) can be accommodated within our description, via the parametric resonance mechanism (similarly to the inflationary reheating scenario) as long as they arise in the late stage of the plasma expansion.

The almuerzo-seminario is intended to be an informal seminar and an open forum for discussion.

You are wellcome to bring your own bocata (sandwich), or coffee or tea.
