Spacetime Foam and Thermodynamics

José Luis Rosales

U.A.M.

From a picture of spacetime foam as a dilute gas of gravitational instantons and the existence of horizons in equilibrium with radiation, we obtain strong thermodynamical constraints. We evaluate these for two instantons, namely, S^4 and S^2xS^2. The temperature of radiation can be exactly computed, e.g., if it consists on charged fields at the physical scale of the electroweak interactions. Interestingly enough, it turns out to be almost independent from the two topologies considered so far and we conjecture that such a constant spacetime temperature would represent a Quantum Field Theory parameter deduced from Planck-scale Physics.

The almuerzo-seminario is intended to be an informal seminar and an open forum for discussion.

You are wellcome to bring your own bocata (sandwich), or coffee or tea.

Where: Modulo C-XVI, 3rd floor, Facultad de Ciencias U.A.M., C.U. Cantoblanco, 28049-Madrid
