Large Dimensions and String Physics at the TeV

Ignatios Antoniadis

E. Polytechnique

If the fundamental type I string scale is at the TeV, the apparent weakness of gravity is due to the existence of large extra dimensions, in the range of a millimeter to a fermi, transverse to the D-brane where the Standard Model particles are localized. This scenario offers a new framework for solving the gauge hierarchy and unifying gauge and gravitational interactions. Furthermore, it has spectacular consequences for physics at future colliders, such as the production of Kaluza-Klein and string excitations, or graviton emission into the extra dimensions. It also accomodates naturally TeV dimensions that may be responsible for supersymmetry breaking, leading to a superparticle spectrum very different than in usual gravity or gauge mediation. Finally, it predicts a drastic change of gravitational forces at sub-millimeter distances that could be tested experimentally.

The almuerzo-seminario is intended to be an informal seminar and an open forum for discussion.

You are wellcome to bring your own bocata (sandwich), or coffee or tea.

Where: Modulo C-XVI, 3rd floor, Facultad de Ciencias U.A.M., C.U. Cantoblanco, 28049-Madrid
