Stringy Corrections to Wilson Loop in N = 4 SYM Theory

In the framework of the conjectured duality between type IIB string on adS_5 x S^5 and N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, the expectation value of Wilson loop operators in the latter is evaluated by calculating the string action. To lowest order this is the minimal area of the string worldsheet whose boundary is fixed to be at the given loop. We discuss sigma model correction at one loop to this classical contribution.
