High-Energy Concepts in High-T_c Superconductivity

Germán Sierra

I.M.A.F.F./C.S.I.C. and I.F.T.

High Temperature Superconductivity remains as one of the most sounding and unsolved problems in Condensed Matter. This is largely due to the richness and variety of the many body phases involved: antiferromagnetism, d-wave superconductivity, pseudogap regime, stripes. All these phenomena seem to be intimately related but one lacks a unified and consistent explanation. Recently there has been several proposals for a unified explanation of the high-Tc superconductivity which are largely inspired by Particle Physics theories. Some examples are given by the SO(5) of Zhang which unifies the antiferromagnetism and d-wave superconductivity, the SO(8) of the two leg ladder, the dual descriptions of the pseudogap region, the quantum string model of the stripes, etc. We shall give a brief introduction of these ideas and present some related work.

The almuerzo-seminario is intended to be an informal seminar and an open forum for discussion.

You are wellcome to bring your own bocata (sandwich), or coffee or tea.

Where: Modulo C-XVI, 3rd floor, Facultad de Ciencias U.A.M., C.U. Cantoblanco, 28049-Madrid
