{"id":6270,"date":"2023-06-02T10:10:52","date_gmt":"2023-06-02T10:10:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/members.ift.uam-csic.es\/ed\/?p=6270"},"modified":"2023-06-02T10:12:09","modified_gmt":"2023-06-02T10:12:09","slug":"prof-anamaria-font-receives-the-loreal-unesco-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/members.ift.uam-csic.es\/ed\/2023\/06\/02\/prof-anamaria-font-receives-the-loreal-unesco-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Prof. Anamar\u00eda Font receives the L&#8217;Or\u00e9al-Unesco\u00a0Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Anamar\u00eda Font, SO(IFT) Research Associate, has beeen awarded in the 25th annual L&#8217;Or\u00e9al-UNESCO International Prize &#8216;Women and Science&#8217;<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unesco.org\/en\/prizes\/women-science\/awards\">L\u2019Or\u00e9al-UNESCO&nbsp;<em>For Women in Science<\/em>&nbsp;International Awards<\/a> are presented every year to five outstanding women scientists \u2013 one per each of the following regions: Africa and the Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America &#8211; in recognition of their scientific accomplishments. Each scientist has had a unique career path combining exceptional talent, a deep commitment to her profession and remarkable courage in a field still largely dominated by men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the field of Physics, <strong>Prof. Anamar\u00eda Font<\/strong> has been awarded this year for her important contributions in theoretical particle physics, in particular to the study of String Theory. Her research has furthered the theory&#8217;s implications for the structure of matter and quantum gravity, which is also relevant to the description of black holes and the first instants after the big bang. L\u2019Or\u00e9al-UNESCO chose Anamar\u00eda Font, from the Central University of Venezuela, among Latin America and the Caribbean region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Anamar\u00eda Font is Professor of Physics at the Central University of Venezuela and IFT Severo Ochoa Associate Researcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to Prof. Font, 2023 laureates include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Professor Suzana Nunes<\/strong> &#8211; Professor of Chemical and Environmental Science and Engineering, Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia<\/li><li><strong>Professor Lidia Morawska<\/strong> &#8211; Distinguished Professor, School of Earth Sciences and Climate, Queensland University of Technology, Australia and Director of the International Laboratory for air quality and health<\/li><li><strong>Professor Aviv Regev<\/strong> &#8211;
