SUMMARY:1st DIFT Colloquium: '25 years of warped geometry' by Lisa Randall.
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Prof. Lisa Randall. Institution: Harvard University\, USA.  \n\n\n\nAbstract:  In this talk\, I review the work done with Raman Sundrum and Andreas Karch on models of warped geometry in five-dimensional space that have interesting four-dimensional consequences. I review applications to particle physics\, cosmology\, string theory\, and general relativity. I briefly introduce some more recent work on those subjects. \n\n\n\n\nProfessor’s Randall research addresses fundamental questions about the properties and interactions of matter\, including work on extra dimensions\, the Standard Model\, supersymmetry\, baryogenesis\, cosmological inflation\, and dark matter. She has also contributed to developing experimental tests for theoretical models\, focusing particularly on the Large Hadron Collider and dark matter searches. \n\n\n\nProfessor Randall is among the most cited and influential theoretical physicists and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She has received numerous honors\, including the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellowship\, the DOE Outstanding Junior Investigator Award\, and the Julius Lilienfeld Prize for both her scientific contributions and science communication efforts. \n\n\n\nBeyond academia\, she has reached broad audiences through her books Warped Passages and Knocking on Heaven’s Door\, both named among The New York Times’ 100 Notable Books of the Year. She has also been recognized in media outlets such as Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” and Rolling Stone‘s 40th Anniversary issue. \n\n\n\nProfessor Randall earned her PhD from Harvard University and previously held professorships at MIT and Princeton before returning to Harvard in 2001.
